Help us train filmmakers of color to tell their unheard stories

Help us train filmmakers of color to tell their unheard stories image

Imagine a world where every story—especially those long erased—finally shines on screen. At Justice for My Sister, we make that happen. For 10 years, we've empowered women of color, nonbinary youth, and survivors of violence to break into the TV & film industry, giving them the tools to tell their stories, heal from trauma, and build financial independence.

The recent years have proved challenging for our industry. COVID-19, Hollywood strikes, and now the devastating LA wildfires have hit communities of color the hardest, halting productions and cutting off vital job opportunities.

We are stepping up with our Short Film Incubator, a new initiative to provide relief and opportunity. By hiring graduates of our programs to produce short films, we aim to:

  • Create paid jobs for those impacted by the wildfires
  • Provide hands-on training on a real film set to early-career filmmakers of color
  • Produce festival-ready short films to launch their careers
  • Kickstart economic independence for aspiring filmmakers who need their first sample work to present to industry professional what they’re capable of
  • Create trauma-informed films that elevate the values of Justice for My Sister, and center the voices of survivors of gender-based violence to promote healing

To make this happen, we’re raising $50,000. Your support makes a direct impact:
🎬 $500 = 2 days of stipends for a Production Assistant in training
🎬 $1000 = 4 days of location rentals
🎬 $3000 = Hiring a Cinematographer or mentor for 10 days
🎬 $5000 = Postproduction costs to complete the films

Join us to invest in the next generation of filmmakers who are eager to be advocates for gender justice in TV and film for the length of their careers.
